What are the garden trends and how do you choose your furniture for it...
Designing a garden is thinking ahead! A garden lives and grows, a garden moves with the seasons. Ideally, you also want to be able to enjoy it all year round! Partly due to the pandemic, we have started to pay a lot of attention to our garden and we may have already built a veranda, or we are thinking about this.....
A veranda not only extends the season but is also ideal for preserving your garden furniture. Just the convenience that you have to clean your furniture less often, and no longer have to store the cushions... You could say that building a veranda has become a real trend! verandas and sky roofs are available in various designs. At Tuintrend we can show you several examples of slatted roofs and convertible roofs (sliding slats).
Garden designs .... what are the current trends:
The beach garden is a major trend. The beach garden comes in different atmospheres but has as an important common denominator the use of sea sand, grasses, shell paths, decking and (drift) wood. It is mainly the furniture and accessories that determine the atmosphere of the beach garden. Dutch dune landscape. Grasses and shell paths, partitions with wooden trunks. Pine trees etc. sober often wooden furniture natural atmosphere. Ibiza, bamboo and reed shade roof, wickerwork, colourful with cushions, beanbags and umbrellas French Riviera. Palm trees, Oleanders, luxurious spacious lounge furniture, round and rectangular or square - usually 2 person - sunbeds.
The Mediterranean Garden: This garden is mainly characterized by colour! From warm terracotta to green tones and naturals. Good base colour with lots of colour accents, this garden invites you to long balmy summer evenings. Green plants and colourful flowers, Orleanders and "Red Robbins" furniture is often traditional, cast aluminium, wickerwork and rope, with comfortable cushions. flowers, bird and butterfly decorations. candles and torches, warm atmosphere.
The Exotic Garden: A garden decorated with exotic plants in our Dutch climate, is that possible? Not a house in the sunny south, but a tropical paradise in your garden, that is certainly possible! Palm trees, bamboo and banana plants for the better jungle feeling. Sounds un-Dutch, doesn't it? Yet they are all plant species that thrive in the Dutch garden. It's about choosing the right varieties. In other words, go for plants and shrubs that look exotic but are hardened by our winters. Take for example Bamboo, which is wrongly associated with a tropical climate, but comes from the coldest regions of the world. The exotic-looking Chinese Fan Palm: "Trachycarpus Fortunei" originates from the Himalayas and is used to snow and cold. With real exotics, you have to work a little more carefully and choose the strongest cultivars in the family. Also, you should place them in the soil and not in pots.
The “ sleek - maintenance-friendly" garden: We associate the garden with free time, enjoying and relaxing after work and then of course we don't want too much maintenance. This garden has tiled terraces and decking and borders with perennials. We are also increasingly seeing a natural (swimming) pond. Wooden decking has the advantage that you do not have to mow the grass every so often. But if you think the green grass is very beautiful, you could also consider using artificial grass. With artificial grass, you have the feeling of grass, while it is super maintenance-friendly. We have also added artificial grasses to our collection.
The (small) city garden or balcony: Not everyone has the luxury of a large garden. Yet we Dutch all like to be outside when the sun is shining! The city garden or balcony is transformed into an outdoor paradise, with plants in pots and containers, with different levels, tiles and decking. "fixed" furniture, folding furniture and many interesting solutions. The city garden can also be filled in with different themes!
The most important trend that we discover is that you give your garden a personal look. Where in the past we opted for a garden set and a lounge set from the same series, we now increasingly opt for your own individual combination. It is important to ensure that you keep the peace and simplicity. Putting together a beautiful garden set yourself is fun and gives a lot of satisfaction! It is of course not easy to do this yourself. We at Tuintrend are ready to help you with our advice. We have a wide range of garden furniture. Our furniture is distinguished by colour, shape and use of fabric. If you are looking for something special, be sure to visit our inspiration centre. Feel free to bring a map sketch or some photos of the existing situation, as well as of what you like!
